FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

why is my toilet constantly running?

It may just trickle and swirl every few minutes, but you don’t want a constant whirlpool in your bathroom. Not only is a running toilet costly, you will more than likely find yourself messing with it every time you use it just to get it to stop. There could be a couple reasons why your toilet won’t stop running. Give us a call so we can give you a proper diagnosis and fix it up for you right away.

My toddler flushed my keys... now what?

It happens. Your toddler flushed your keys… or in our case, our daughter flushed her socks. ALL her socks. Even if the object made it past the toilet, it can still cause problems and plug up the sewer main. If you know something has been flushed that shouldn’t have, give us a call to make sure further damage is prevented.

how can i prevent clogged drains?

There are a few things you can do to prevent clogged drains:

  • Never pour grease, butter or oil down the drain.
  • Use sink strainers in the kitchen sink to catch ingredients like coffee grounds, flour, grains and seeds from going down the kitchen drain.
  • Use strainers in bathroom sinks, showers and tubs to catch hair and soap debris.
  • Run water before, during and 10-15 seconds after starting the garbage disposal.
  • If you notice a slow drain, take action immediately before it gets worse.
  • Clean calcium buildup from showerheads and faucets.
  • Watch what you flush. Paper towels, baby wipes, dental floss, gum, feminine hygiene products, etc. can cause blockages and backups.

why does my toilet smell funky?

A funky smell is an indication of a bigger problem. Hidden leaks result from overly strained or clogged toilets and can cause a multitude of issues. A hidden leak that’s left unchecked can quickly raise your water bill, cause severe damage behind your walls or under the floor, and may result in mold growth. If you smell something funky, give us a call to find the source and fix the leak.

hOW CAN i TELL IF i HAVE POLY-b PIPING?

Check the pipes running to the water meter, those coming from the top of the water tank, or under your sink . If the pipes are grey plastic with copper connections, it is likely that your home has poly-b tubing.

The Toilet is Plugged. Do i need to call a plumber?

For a simple clog, the plunger should get the water flowing again. If not, using a toilet snake or the old baking soda and vinegar trick are a couple other options to try. But be careful, if done incorrectly, a plunger can break the wax ring at the base of the toilet, leading to flooding and water damage. We also recommend not pouring chemical products into a toilet to unclog the drain. These items may be sold in stores, but chemicals can cause corrosion and lead to leaks farther down the pipes.
